The Main window (or Normal View, as opposed to MiniView) is the one you see when Times+ first opens. It is the primary window for viewing and editing Events and their notes. The title bar displays the name and version of the application. Only one Main window can be open at a time. If you close it, you are only closing the window, not the Event List. To bring it back you may select “Full View” (command-F) from the Window menu.
The window is divided into three sections. The top section consists of three rows of text fields and labels, such as Event, Event ID#, Total Event Time, etc. These are simply spots for Times+ to display information. They are not user selectable or editable. Their labels should be pretty self-explanatory. Notice that the Current Date and Current Time fields are already filled in and update automatically. The rest will be filled in whenever you select a single Event, or be blank if no Event or multiple Events are selected.
The second section contains two large boxes. One is labeled Event List, the other Event Notes. Event List displays all Events in the currently open Event List file. It displays them in alphabetical order by Title. This is where you select Events to be viewed, edited, timed, and deleted. You may select multiple Events for commands which work on multiple Events. Selecting a single Event displays its information in the above fields.
Event Notes is where you may enter notes for each individual Event. The following is IMPORTANT: In order to enter/preserve notes, one Event, and only one Event, must be selected from the Event List. You can tell if one is selected because its Title, ID#, and timing information (if it has been timed) will be displayed up top in the appropriate fields. If it has any notes previously entered, those will be in the Event Notes field, ready to be added to, deleted, edited, whatever. Selecting another Event will show its information. Selecting no Events or multiple Events will leave this field blank like the other fields. You may enter text, but it will be gone as soon as you select something.
When a single Event is selected, Times+ constantly looks at this field and updates the Event as you edit the notes. Hence, you don’t have to click anything or select another Event in order to preserve the notes; they automatically update.
The final section of this window is the bottom row of icons. These icons act just like buttons, and each has a single function associated with it. The first three let you create new Events, edit Events, and delete Events. The second three, the ones that look like cassette tape controls, let you start/resume, stop/pause, and reset Events. The last three deal with other windows. You’ll learn more about all of them in a moment.
